What to do when your phone takes a spill? It’s the absolute worst. We’ve all heard of the horrors of liquid damage. We’ve got do’s and don’ts when your phone gets wet.

1. Turn off your phone!

I know it is tempting to leave it on and try to use it, but don’t. Any electrical charge from the battery can instantly fry your phone, resulting in lots of 🙁 emojis.

2. DO NOT PLUG IT IN!!!

It doesn’t turn on right away? Oh, well lets try to plug it in and see if that works. DON’T DO IT! Just like rule 1, it can and most likely will fry your phone.

3. Putting it in rice or using a hair dryer is a myth.15590280_10211328931798621_519891721107349532_n

Rice absorbs water. Water = bad. Rice taking all water out of your phone = good right? Sadly no. While this does absorb a lot of the moisture from the enclosure, what it does not do is remove the conductive mineral residue that the water/liquid leaves behind. So while your phone may be dry, using it can result in the phone shorting itself out. The hair dryer is exactly the same result.

4. Do not bake your phone in the oven.

While this may seem to help, exposing your device to excessive heat can cause irreparable damage to the phone’s logic board, meaning you’ll be replacing your phone altogether.

5. Bring your phone into a local Gophermods repair shop.

Sure you saw this coming. But bringing it to a Gophermods repair shop is a great no-risk low cost option available for us to bring your phone back. We service all types of phones, whether it is an iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, or LG and many others. The repair costs $69 for a liquid residue cleaning. If there are any other parts required, the cost is given in a no-obligation assessment. If we cannot fix your phone, or if it costs more than you are comfortable with, we can give you back the phone at no cost, and can even recycle your device with us for free.

If your phone is labeled as being water resistant, but don’t know exactly what that means, you can read more about that here.
