Guidance for Your Next Retail Repair Shop
Finding a good repair shop isn’t always easy, and while we won’t be here for your next repair.

It’s bittersweet to share that our store front is closing. Serving this community and helping keep your devices up and running has been one of the greatest honors we could ask for, and we can’t thank you enough for the trust and support you’ve given us over the years.
Finding a good repair shop in Minneapolis isn’t always easy, and while we won’t be here for your next repair, we don’t want you to feel left on your own.
Rather than recommend any specific shop, we wanted to share a guide you can use to evaluate any repair shop you go to in the future. Every shop is different, and there isn’t always one “right” answer. What matters most is that a shop can explain their practices in an open and upfront manner. This guide will give you the questions to ask and the confidence to choose the place that feels right for you.
Questions to Ask a Repair Shop
1. Do you offer a warranty on your repairs?
A reliable shop should be able to explain whether they cover parts, labor, or both, and what situations might not be covered (like accidental damage).
2. What kind of parts do you use?
Some shops use OEM (original) parts, while others use aftermarket parts. What matters is that they can tell you which they’re using, why they’ve chosen them, and how it affects cost and warranty.
- Just because a part isn’t OEM doesn’t mean it’s low quality. Many aftermarket parts are high quality and perform just as well and might come with better warranties. The key is that the shop is transparent about what you’re getting.
3. How long will my repair take, and is the work done in-house?
Turnaround time can depend on whether the shop keeps parts in stock and whether the repair is done on site or sent out. Neither approach is wrong, but the shop should be clear about their process, timelines, and what you can expect.
4. How do you handle my data and privacy?
Look for a shop that has a clear process here. Even if their answer is as simple as “we never access your data unless required, and we’ll always let you know first.” A trustworthy repair shop will be able to clearly explain their data privacy policies and practices.
5. Can I get an estimate before the repair?
Good shops will be upfront about pricing and explain if anything could change during the course of the repair. The exact details may vary, but you should always feel informed before saying yes.
- Be sure to ask if there are any additional costs — like diagnostic fees, labor charges, or taxes — so you’re not surprised at checkout. An honest shop will be upfront about the full cost of your repair.
Other Things to Look For
- Reviews: Recent Google or Yelp reviews, and how the shop responds to feedback.
- Experience: Shops that have been around a while often have steadier processes.
- Communication: Clear, friendly, and upfront in explaining things.
- Professionalism: A clean, organized shop usually reflects careful work.
