Comprehensive Guide to iPhone 14 Repairability and Costs

Introduction

The new iPhone 14 lineup has been launched, and it’s time to explore its repairability. We’ll focus on the regular iPhone 14 models, as that’s where the most interesting changes occur. In this article, we’ll discuss to what extent the iPhone 14 can be repaired and provide estimates on repair costs. If you’re looking for information about the reparability of last years model, the iPhone 13, check that guide out here.

Display Repairs

The iPhone 14 and 14 Plus use displays similar to the iPhone 13 and 13 Pro Max, with the same notch cutout. The 14 Plus, however, lacks the ProMotion technology exclusive to the Pro series phones.

As a result, we could see lower repair costs since many display components could be similar to previous models.

Currently, only prices for screen repair, back glass repair, and complete device replacement are available. Here is the estimated cost for these repairs as they become available.

Popular iPhone 14 Repairs:

Estimated Screen Repair Costs:

We don’t yet have concrete information on part costs through our distributors, but we’ll update pricing in the coming weeks and months.

  • iPhone 14: $279
  • iPhone 14 Plus: $329
  • iPhone 14 Pro: $329
  • iPhone 14 Pro Max: $379

Back Glass:

The iPhone’s back glass has been notoriously expensive to repair since Apple started using glass backs in 2017. However, Apple has made the screen and back glass easily removable in the iPhone 14, meaning the two most breakable components are now the easiest to repair. This benefits the environment, repair shops like Gophermods, and customers’ wallets.

While we don’t have exact prices for individual parts, we expect back glass for the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus to be more affordable and have quicker turnarounds.

  • iPhone 14: $169
  • iPhone 14 Plus: $199
  • iPhone 14 Pro: $499
  • iPhone 14 Pro Max: $549

Battery:

We plan to continue offering battery replacements for the iPhone 14 series. However, replacing the battery will result in a message saying it cannot tell if the battery is a genuine Apple part.

  • iPhone 14: $99
  • iPhone 14 Plus: $99
  • iPhone 14 Pro: $99
  • iPhone 14 Pro Max: $99

Charging Port:

Apple continues to use the Lightning port. We expect to fix many of these, but if there is no physical damage, take it to Apple since they warranty the phones for a year.

  • iPhone 14: $549
  • iPhone 14 Plus: $599
  • iPhone 14 Pro: $649
  • iPhone 14 Pro Max: $699

Will you be able to repair the iPhone 14?

As of March 2023, the iPhone 11 has become one of the most sought-after repairs at our facility as well as other third-party repair shops nationwide. Typically, it takes around 18-24 months after a model’s release for it to become our “most popular” repair. We anticipate a surge in iPhone 14 repairs at our stores in 2024.

Although it’s still early, preliminary teardown videos of the iPhone 14 from our friends at iFixit suggest that professional repair shops should not encounter any major repairability issues with this model.

In essence, the iPhone 14 is an upgraded iPhone 13. In 2022, our repair system logged the first iPhone 13 repair request in November 2021 and the first screen repair in December 2021.

If your brand-new iPhone 14 gets damaged within two to three months of launch and is not covered by AppleCare+ or AppleCare Protection Plan, you can visit an Apple Store for repair. For information on the out-of-warranty iPhone repair process and pricing, click here.

When will you be able to repair the iPhone 14?

We are already equipped to repair the iPhone 14 and have completed several screen replacements for customers who preferred not to wait for an Apple Store appointment.

Most repair shops now have access to iPhone 14 parts and can service broken screens, cameras, docking ports, and more. Barring any physical damage, other device issues should still be covered under Apple’s one-year warranty.

We pride ourselves on transparency and honesty, and we always recommend utilizing free warranty replacements when possible. If your device has no significant scratches, damages, or gouges, consider having it replaced at Apple.

What can you repair on the iPhone 14?

Given the similarities between the iPhone 14 and iPhone 13, we can address a wide range of issues, including screens, faulty batteries, damaged docking ports, broken cameras, and cracked rear camera glass. For a comprehensive list of iPhone 14 repairs offered at Gophermods, visit our iPhone 14 repair page. We may not stock all parts in-store due to limited demand, so please call or email us for repair inquiries.

How much will it cost with the new Apple Self-Service Repair Program?

Starting in April 2022, US iPhone owners can also buy replacement parts and tools directly from Apple. Apple says the program is a way to “provide easy access to genuine Apple parts and supplies for local iPhone repair,” but limits customers’ repair and refurbishing options. However, there are still no iPhone 14 parts or guides available yet. Our assumption is Apple will start to make these available when they launch the next generation of iPhone. So when the iPhone 15 comes out, iPhone 14 parts will be available on the self-service repair program.

  1. iPhone 14 and 14 Plus have improved repairability, with easily removable screens and back glass, resulting in potentially lower repair costs and quicker turnarounds.
  2. iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max maintain a similar design to their predecessors, so repair costs and processes remain largely unchanged.
  3. Display repairs, back glass repairs, battery replacements, and charging port repairs are the most common repairs for the iPhone 14 series.
  4. Part availability and costs are still uncertain, but updates are expected in the coming weeks and months.

By understanding these key points, you’ll be better prepared to handle any accidents with your iPhone 14 and make informed decisions about repairs and costs.

The iPhone 14 and 14 Plus bring positive changes for those who experience accidents with their devices. However, the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max maintain the same design as their predecessors. Regardless, we recommend protecting your devices with cases, screen protectors, and Gophercare Plus (availability varies by device).
